Welcome to our website.
Way back in 1989 a "snowmobile" weekend, utilizing for the many "rental" sleds for friends began with day trips from Port Carling - residing at the Harding Cottage. Thursday night "bass lake" for wings, meet the friends and plan a route for each day was the order of business. In 1989 in fact, the trip was not called the "Ground Hog Tour" at that point, but more commonly referred to as "Phil's Birthday weekend" as this annual trip typically coincided in or around Feb 2nd (Ground Hog's day) - and Phil's Birthday.
As the years progressed, as the reliability of the sleds increased, the desire to reach out beyond "Muskoka" was burning and " over night trips - travel trips, became the staple of the annual adventure, adding distance and even time to the trips - currently the annual "ground hog tour" consists of almost 4 full days of riding anywhere in Ontario or Quebec.
Since the inception of the trip some 22 years ago - the two cornerstones (and organizers) of the trip are Sandy Stephens (missing all but one year) and Phil Harding (The Ground Hog) who thankfully has been involved each and every year of its history.
A special thank you to everyone that has been on the trip in the past, and those dedicated riders that continue to participate year after year. The trip itself has become more than a few days of snowmobiling, more than a birthday celebration, more than a boys weekend. The trip in fact has become the snowmobile highlight of the year for myself and many others for all of the above reasons, but most importantly because of the friendships and bonds that have been made over the years. And the ability to reconnect, take time out of our busy lives and relax together enjoying this sport, the wonderful country side and the ultimate interaction of the most eclectic group of friends one could ever imagine.
Thanks to each of you for making the Ground Hog Tour special each and every year.
Phil Harding.
